Canadian Chamber Statement on Minister LeBlanc’s Plan to Remove Trade Barriers within Canada

Today's announcement by Minister LeBlanc to remove federal exceptions is a positive step forward.

July 24, 2024

Today’s announcement by Minister LeBlanc to remove federal exceptions is a positive step forward to finally having freer trade within Canada. It’s an inexpensive way to help Canadian businesses trade more freely across the country. By removing unnecessary internal trade barriers, we can boost job creation and grow our economy, which is especially important in this challenging economic climate.

However, there’s still a lot of work to do. We encourage the federal government to keep working with provincial governments and business leaders to eliminate red tape, remove regulatory barriers, and align with our key international trade partners.

Randall Zalazar, Director of Government Relations, Canadian Chamber of Commerce
